Tamim Iqbal doubtful for second Test, Anamul Haque called up as cover ? Cricket News Update
Prolific Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal remains a doubtful starter for the second Test against West Indies with an elbow injury.
Iqbal, 23, hurt a tendon in his left elbow while batting in the first innings of the first Test against West Indies, in Mirpur, which his side lost by 77 runs. The experienced Chittagong batsman, who scored 72 and 5 in the series opener last week, batted only against spin in the nets on Monday, and will undergo a fitness test later in the day to determine his availability for the second and final Windies Test.
"Tamim sustained a muscle tendon injury during the first Test on his left elbow. He will do a fitness test on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning," said the Bangladesh cricket team physiotherapist Vibhav Singh in an official release on the eve of the match.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called up uncapped batsman Anamul Haque to the squad as cover for injured Tamim. However, it still remains unclear whether the Khulna teenager will make his Test debut tomorrow or not.
The 19-year-old right-handed batsman plays for Khulna Division in Bangladesh?s domestic circuit. To date he has played 23 first class matches, scoring 1726 runs at an impressive average of 45.42. The tally also includes seven centuries and six half centuries.
He has scored 366 runs in six NCL (National Cricket League) innings this month, including two unbeaten centuries (127* and 104*) in the last three outings, at an average of 91.50.
The Khulna Division wicketkeeper batsman was also the top scorer at the ICC Under 19 World Cup, held in Australia in August this year.
The series decider kick starts at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. This will be the first ever Test match hosted by the venue.
Darren Sammy led West Indies leads the two-match series 1-0, after having defeated the hosts by 77 runs in the first Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium (November 13 to 17).
The two-Test series will be followed by five One Day Internationals and a one-off T20 International.
