Muscat: The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, will be visiting the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday.
The two-day visit will highlight the close economic and social ties between the Netherlands and Oman.
The highlight of the mayor's visit to Oman would be the review of? the Port of Sohar project, which is a joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and the Omani government.
Sohar tour
Mayor Aboutaleb will be visiting the Port of Sohar on Tuesday.
He will be hosted by Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Chairman of the Board of the Port of Sohar. Mayor Aboutaleb will also meet with his counterpart, Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Head of the Muscat Municipality.
On Wednesday, the mayor will meet with Omani entrepreneurs who have further strengthened the ties between Oman and the Netherlands by launching plans for business activities in
Rotterdam.
Mohammed Barwani, CEO of Oceanco, is in the process of investing in a dry-dock facility in Rotterdam area.
Partnership
Oman Trading International (OTI) and Oman Oil Company, represented by their respective CEOs Talal Al Awfi and Ahmed Al Wahaibi, recently decided to launch their first European trading office in the city of Rotterdam.
In order to highlight and further strengthen these new ties, Mayor Aboutaleb will be hosting a function and interacting with businessmen, citizens and the members of the media.
Mayor Aboutaleb is of Moroccan origin and is a fluent Arabic speaker.
