Shanaze Reade: I may replace Victoria ... - BBC World News

Shanaze Reade is considering a return to track cycling to replace retiring Victoria Pendleton in the Team GB line-up at Rio 2016 after missing out on a BMX medal at London 2012. And after that disappointment, Reade says she is considering returning to track cycling ? where she was crowned world champion in 2007 and 2008 alongside Pendleton in the team sprint. ?I will take a step back for a few weeks but I will definitely be back in Rio whether with track or BMX, or even both ? I don?t know yet,? said the 23-year-old. ?I have got opportunities on the track cycling side and on the BMX side. ?It [track] is a possibility because obviously Victoria has retired now so it leaves the door open. ?I?ve demonstrated I?m not too bad at track ? I got a gold with Victoria, so why not?? Reade eased through her three-run semi-finals in BMX and had a good lane choice for the one-run final. However, a slow start forced her out of the running early on and she couldn?t recover as Columbia?s Mariana Pajon took gold. Reade suggested if there was more than one race in the final then she could have been among the medals ? but said she had no regrets. ?If I could have had more than one opportunity to go again then I would have done better,? added Reade. ?I was proud of myself, I didn?t come away with a medal but the support was phenomenal, I can hold my head high and said I did my best. ?It was the best two weeks of my life, there was so much pressure at Beijing but here I have been really chilled. ?It is a move up the ladder from Beijing and I am going to enjoy today.?
