32-inch 'LaserSaber' lights up your Star Wars dreams, burns the curtains (video)

32-inch 'LaserSabre' lights up your Star Wars dreams, burns the curtains (video)

If you enjoyed all those not-at-all tiresome "May the 4th be with you" tweets yesterday, then this is likely right up your equatorial trench. Wicked Lasers, makers of the eye-meltingly powerful S3 Krypton laser has developed a $100 attachment for the same that will bring a few not-so-little boys' dreams true. The ahem LaserSaber add-on takes the pin-sharp beam of light from the company's S3 range of lasers, and sends it down a 32" polycarbonate "blade". A so called magnetic gravity system imitates the powering-up and down of those other famous sabers, but they stopped at adding sound effects. Bear in mind, you're still dealing with imperial levels of light here, so dueling is most definitely not recommended, but if you want the nearest thing to the real deal, remember, May the 5th we told you.

9/11 families prepare for Guantanamo arraignment

At right, a photo downloaded from the Arabic language Internet site www.muslm.net and purporting to show a man identified by the Internet site as Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sep. 11 attacks, is seen in detention at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The picture was allegedly taken in July 2009 by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and released only to the detainee's family under a new policy allowing the ICRC to photograph Guantanamo inmates, ICRC spokesman Bernard Barrett said Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. Five men accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 attacks, including the self-proclaimed mastermind, are headed back to a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay more than three years after President Barack Obama put the case on hold in a failed effort to move the proceedings to a civilian court and close the prison at the U.S. base in Cuba. (AP) ? Nearly 11 years after the Sept. 11 attacks, family members of some of the victims will watch via closed-circuit TV on Saturday as the self-proclaimed mastermind of the attacks and four co-defendants are arraigned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"I want to bear witness that in fact these people are brought to justice," said Al Santora, whose firefighter son Christopher died at the World Trade Center.

Santora and his wife, Maureen, plan to watch the arraignment of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the others at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, where others began gathering Saturday morning for a live broadcast of the hearing for victims' family members, survivors and emergency personnel who responded to the attacks. The fort is one of four military bases where the proceeding will be shown. Others are Fort Devens in Massachusetts and Joint Base McGuire Dix in New Jersey. Only the fourth, Fort Meade in Maryland, is open to the public.

Mohammed and the others are expected to be arraigned on charges that include terrorism and murder. They could get the death penalty if convicted in the attacks that sent hijacked airliners slamming into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. The trial is probably at least a year away.

Six victims' families chosen by lottery traveled to Guantanamo to see the arraignment in person.

Alan Linton of Frederick, Maryland, who lost his son Alan Jr., an investment banker, at the World Trade Center, said he and his wife put their names in the lottery for the Cuba trip but they aren't interested in watching a video feed of the arraignment.

"That's just not the same as being there to me," Linton said. "Going to Fort Meade, it's kind of like watching television."

Whether they plan to watch or not, family members expressed frustration that it's taken so long to bring the Sept. 11 conspirators to justice.

The administration of President Barack Obama dropped earlier military-commission charges against them when it decided in late 2009 to try them in federal court in New York. But Congress blocked the civilian trials amid opposition to bringing the defendants to U.S. soil, especially to a courthouse located just blocks from the trade center site.

Santora said he hopes the trial can proceed quickly once it starts.

"They have tons and tons of evidence and they've already admitted their guilt," he said. "So I don't know why the trial should be long."

Retired firefighter Jim Riches, whose son was also a firefighter who died at the trade center, said some of victims' parents did not live long enough to see the trial.

"We were promised swift justice by Barack Obama," he said. "And we're still waiting."

NOAA sought magician, now wants plans to disappear

(AP) ? A federal agency needs illusionist David Copperfield to help escape from criticism over now-canceled plans to hire a speaker to train agency leaders using "magic tools."

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is in hot water because on May 1 it posted a notice seeking a magician motivational speaker for a June leadership conference in suburban Maryland. The agency said presentations should include "physical energizers, magic tricks, puzzles, brain teasers, word games, humor and teambuilding exercises." It asked for the performer to create "a unique model of translating magic and principals of the psychology of magic, magic tools, techniques and experiences into a method of teaching leadership."

In an eight page bid solicitation, the agency in charge of weather, climate and oceans said it wanted to use the emotional intelligence techniques of a prominent Harvard professor who has written five books, but misspelled his name.

The posting came weeks after the General Services Administration was embroiled in a scandal involving a Las Vegas conference that cost nearly $1 million and included a mind reader.

Congressmen and senators called NOAA's plans frivolous and ridiculous. House Science Committee Chairman Ralph Hall, R-Tex., gave NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco a week to come up with an explanation and details about past spending on magicians and comedians.

Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., in a statement, said "this is a low point even by Washington's standards" and added that "the best magic that NOAA could perform would be to make this wasteful spending disappear."

His wish was granted.

After NOAA's notice was reported by Government Executive magazine, the agency canceled the magic gig. An agency spokesman said NOAA's top lawyer is looking into the plans. According to NOAA, the agency had planned to spend about $3,500 on the speaker about the "magic of change."

"No speakers have been hired or confirmed for this training session," NOAA spokesman Scott Smullen wrote in an email.

The advertisement for the magician sounded like they were trying to hire a specific person, said Steve Ellis, vice president for the watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense. He said what makes NOAA's plans so surprising is that someone thought about hiring a magician after the GSA scandal raised people's awareness about silly conference spending.

"It gets filed under 'What were they thinking'?" Ellis said. "It boggles the mind that somebody thought that this would pass the laugh test of the public."

Home or Business Security and Surveillance Cameras ? Reviews ...

There are lots of things that you can do to protect just about any kind of property that you want to keep secure and under surveillance. This is because every day there are new advances in the technology used in security cameras and surveillance systems. The innovation displayed in wireless technology over the last three years has increased the types of security cameras and security application by leaps and bounds. As you start to explore this industry it will truly surprise you at just how much variety there is out there. This means that, before you spend a single dollar, you need to do enough research. If you keep reading you will hopefully learn some of what you should know before you start buying security and surveillance cameras.

Wireless digital cameras are available in many varieties. Make sure any camera that you plan to use outside is waterproof. This is important to remember because not all security cameras are made to be waterproof. A camera with digital video recording capabilities is also highly recommended. It?s always good to record for at least a period of maybe 24 hours.

If anything happens, you can easily retrieve the video as required for legal reasons, etc. Today?s technology also allows you to only record when motion has been detected.

Night vision cameras are another commonly used security camera. These cameras can be highly versatile and give you the ability to see clearly in dark environments. Be sure to get one that will work the best for your application as how far you can see with these cameras varies greatly between manufacturers. This cameras can be used for more than just complete darkness type conditions. They work extremely well in low-light conditions which may be very attractive for you depending on your situation. The image quality tends to be best with black and white recording settings.

Bullet cameras are rather admired for security camera functions, as they have diminutive profiles and are capable of quality images. If you need to use a number of them for your business or home, then you will appreciate the modest price range that can be found with these cameras. A precise example is the Weather-Proof Color Day/Night Bullet Camera. It is deliberately used for CCTV functions, which are a trendy and typical layout for security and surveillance cameras. This exact camera is able to see measurements of up to 45 feet within low light / dark lighting situations. That is not a bad spec at all and should be a comfortable distance to see in very low light to dark conditions. If you come across yourself with a need for the establishment for a network of security and surveillance cameras, then you should take plenty of time to shop around for the ideal equipment for your necessities. Have some staying power and conduct your research because there really is tons of information to gather. You?ll be able to make the most wonderful buying decision when you have an understanding.

Karrine Steffans Details Ray J Taunting of Bobby Brown

The June issue of Vanity Fair takes an in-depth look at the life and death of Whitney Houston.

Written by Contributing Editor Mark Seal, the article delves into the late singer's love life, which is best known for her 15-year marriage to Bobby Brown, but which also included a dalliance with Kim Kardashian sex tape partner, Ray J.

Karrine Steffans PhotographRay J Red Carpet Pic

Karrine Steffans - a self-proclaimed "Video Vixen," who has dated Brown, Ray J and Bill Maher, among other celebrities - is featured in the piece, telling Seal that Ray used to taunt Brown on a frequent basis.

One evening, according to Steffans, she received a call from J.

“He said, ‘Is Bob still staying with you?’ I said, ‘Yeah, he’s right here.’ And Ray said, ‘Tell him I f-cked both of his chicks, you and now his wife.’”

Ouch. Slam, yo!

Steffans goes on to side with Brown, who recently gave a defensive interview in which he shirked all responsibility for Houston's drug use.

“Bob’s big thing was everyone blamed him for her downfall, but when he met her she was already using drugs. He always felt very angry about that. He told me, ‘What everybody saw wasn’t the real Whitney.’ He always said her private persona - which you saw on Being Bobby Brown - was who she really was.”
